How was BOWSPRING created?
In 2012 Desi Springer started to develop an innovative training concept. As a yoga teacher with her own successful yoga studio she broke away from conventional yoga principles.
She was searching for the primary and natural origin of the body and its movement.
Instead of pulling the coccyx downwards and wanting to achieve an almost straight spine, which can be rather helpful for static positions, she consciously uses the back buttock muscles and thus deepens the curve in the lower back. In contrast to the hollow back, it also emphasizes the curvature of the upper thoracic spine to the back, thus creating a double S-curve in the spine. In doing so, she was inspired by primitive people and animals and created dynamic, pulsating sequences of movement.
This new type of yoga uses the double S-curve of the spine and the elasticity and connection of the fasciae to enable a better ability to bounce, jump and run.
The aim is to make the body ready for natural operative movements and to create a kind of "readiness" and consequently a greater conscious presence in all situations of life.
At the beginning of 2013 she convinced John Friend, the founder of Anusara® Yoga and her teacher for many years, about her idea. Together as a team they developed and refined the Bowspring method over several years. In the process, they conducted intensive research using the model of tensegrity (see below) and universal geometry.
